Hi folks!
It’s been six months since I decided to start writing again.
If you don’t know me well: I’m a full-time marketing executive by day, where I look after the complete marketing of a B2B business in the building industry.
But I knew I could do so much more.
So, #MarketingFairy was born, and I decided to take it slow.
This is my second time building a side hustle; I am (hopefully) smarter this time.
So what did I do?
I started writing on Medium, and I have 42 articles and around 1000 followers.
I started the Marketing Fairy, a weekly newsletter on Substack that I republish on LinkedIn.
I started and have not finished my personal website, which is going to be my hub (owned) channel.
It seems like not much, isn’t it?
BUT:
I write just one hour a day.
I have full-time work, three kids, and their sports; I cook every day and want to stay healthy and strong (so gym and fun instead of 24-hour hustle).
I’ve been researching, learning and thinking a LOT »
Who is my ideal audience (and what bothers them)
How can I help them
What is my USP and my competitive advantage
What channels and tools should I use
How to tie up my marketing strategy, given my resources
What is their ideal customer journey
What tools (aka lead magnets) can I use to help them go through that funnel?
All these steps are needed to start your marketing (content) strategy right. They are not visible to the audience, but they are CRUCIAL.
I’m working on a FREE step-by-step guide to help busy business owners and overwhelmed marketers improve their content marketing in just a few steps.
Stay tuned!
Fuck algorithms - Write to YIA
I like my position - being on both sides of the coin:
On one side, I’m running a marketing team and have external agencies working with us - so I’m a client.
On the other side, I’m building my side business where I offer my services to clients.
In both roles, I can see clearly that SEO without human-oriented content doesn’t work.
That FB ads or any ads solely can’t push customers from the top through the bottom of the funnel.
I’m glad that many agencies also see this. Dilate Digital, one of Perth’s renowned agencies, explain in their recent newsletter:
“Google did what they said they would—they built algorithms and systems to show users the best content, not the most optimised content.”
-says Roberto Boi, their Head of discovery.
It’s not enough anymore to “hack” the algorithm and nail targeting; writing to YIA - your ideal audience is more important than ever.
Write human to human.
Their entire newsletter and offer in it deeply resonate with me:
In a hyper-personalised world, offering a customised, result-driven approach is vital.
No one should pay just for views or cost per click only.
As Dilate Digital team say:
“Looking purely at the very bottom of your marketing funnel is no longer enough to grow your business sustainably”.
So, if you want to grow and scale your business, you need to start crafting content for each marketing and sales funnel step ASAP.
You have two options:
To learn and do everything alone (these newsletters aim to help you learn how)
To hire someone to do it for you ( yes, that someone can be me :)). Contact me if you need help with content marketing 💌
