Back in 2010, juggling morning sickness and endless doctor's appointments, I knew I had to write. It was in my blood.
So, I started a little blog: Mum’s World, while on my third maternity leave.
The problem? Nobody read it.
My words echoed into a void.
I quickly realised that building an audience and marketing your work online isn't easy. In Serbia, 14 years ago, online marketing resources were practically non-existent. I had to figure it out myself, trial and error, copying others and making countless mistakes.
I learned the hard way - no one will read your writing online if you don't know how to:
Build an audience and
Market your product (in my case, a parenting blog).
So I started learning about creating content, creating ads, sending cold emails, writing newsletters, and creating on socials, mostly by copying other creators, rare online resources, and my mistakes.
I didn't have any strategy
No business plan.
I had no confidence that the community I was building could be a product.
So I tried to find teachers.
Mentors.
Resources (as cheap as possible - (hey, I have lived in a very poor country).
I found some gurus.
Paid for their books and courses.
They successfully led me to confusion, fear and overwhelm.
But I didn't give up.
I found my way to build a community and monetised my blog - it became one of the leading in the parenting niche - allowing me to work with more than 20 popular brands in Serbia, get sponsorships, numerous marketing clients, and writing gigs.
I left journalism and landed a few jobs in marketing.
Then, I decided to ditch everything and go to Australia to pursue a Master's degree in Marketing.
Why?
I needed to build a foundation for my marketing building.
So, when I started writing online in the Australian market in 2022, I started from scratch again.
This time, I knew all my past mistakes.
My big idea:
I want to help my past self avoid wasting time and money.
I want to help solopreneurs and people who are just starting and are completely overwhelmed to establish simple, easy-to-manage marketing.
I want to be their accountability buddy, as I know how easy is to procrastinate when you are afraid and overwhelmed.
