Do You Struggle Writing Consistently? Here is How To Overcome it.
What do you do if you donβt feel like writing today?
Writing is my Ikigai.
I love writing and have been living from writing for decades. Yet, some days, just the thought of writing makes me like I want to run away.
But despite the internal struggle, Iβve managed to churn out content every single day.
So, whatβs my secret for those days when the words just wonβt flow?
Itβs simple:
Step one: Have a writing routine.
Step two: When things are bad, forget about routine.
Establishing writing routine
Inspiration is BS, just a piece of the puzzle.
Writing habits and discipline are everything.
βI only write when inspiration strikes. Fortunately, it strikes at nine every morning.β
William Faulkner
Writing is just that β you simply sit on paper and type.
If you donβt know what to write, no problem.
Here is what to do, step by step.
Reach your content ideas hub, pick one, and start developing it. Never start from scratch. If you donβt have one, Here is a free template for you. If you need more help with this, apply here for access to Magic Writing Hub (the entire system to write effortlessly) to hear when I launch Magic Writing Hub.
If youβre struggling to start, use Chat GPT or Koala Writer to outline. Here is a list of all the free and low-cost tools I use to ideate and create my content.
It becomes much more manageable once you have βthe skeletonβ for your article.
Write in small chunks.
As a busy mum of three children, Iβve never had hours to write. I started writing when they were in bed and then, the next day, stole every tiny bit of time to finish what Iβd started the night before.
I donβt wait for the perfect moment to write β I seize every spare minute. Those stolen moments add up.
Before you know it, youβve pieced together an entire article, paragraph by paragraph.
Keep your ideas hub ready
So, whatβs my secret for those days when the words just wonβt flow?
Itβs simple: forget about routine.
Give your brain new food to get these creative juices out.
What do I do to resume my creative flow?
Walk: natural steps are the most powerful way to restore inspiration.
Shower: I always get great ideas in the shower. If youβre the same, jump out of the water and write them down.
Physical work: including cleaning the house, gardening, cooking, and more. While your body works, your mind can wander and generate new ideas.
Reading: Someone elseβs great lines can be an awesome starting point for your writing.
When an idea strikes, jot down a note. Keep it for later.
Let your idea momentum build before you sit in front of the computer.
Build your content writing hub with a list of fantastic ideas.
Do you not have one?
Let me help you built it.
The beauty of this approach?
You donβt need to be motivated or overflowing with ideas. Just chip away at your draft throughout the day, bit by bit.
Once you build your idea bundle, youβll never start with a blank screen. And thatβs so liberating.
You write down your ideas when youβre full of emotions.
Then, when youβre uninspired and feel bland, you can do what it takes to finish the job: edit ruthlessly.
When you finally pull out your laptop for a quick edit, youβll be amazed at how easy it is to finish what you have started, even if you have zero inspiration.
I dare you to start today :)
